Episode 119: “Eye of the Needle”
Godannar is a robot show whose intentions are difficult to read. Is its fanservice played to give its audience a snicker or a boner? I suppose it’s not impossible to laugh and beat off at the same time–it’s just extremely distracting.
This podcast was meant to be the first in a series for “OctoboRoboFest“; where October’s podcasts were all part of a theme: Silly robot anime. We mostly accomplish this in that we will be covering three robot anime in a row… Not exactly on time, nor likely in a row. But they’re comin’, folks! And they’re awesome!
In the Method to Madness podcast, Sean “The Grey Ghost” Ryan and Kevin “The Business” Gray discuss the great anime that you should be watching and the shameful anime we know you’re watching instead.

I never got that memo about other podcast covering robots in October. Although, we are covering Koichi Ohata animes this month, which those do have robots in them.

The proposed “theme month” hasn’t exactly gone according to schedule, but we’ll still be knocking out the planned shows.

So, the interesting thing about Godannar is that it’s part of a trilogy of series with Betterman and GaoGaiGar, and well, it’s very much the odd man out. While the other two shows have sexy character designs, I don’t recall anywhere NEAR the amount of bizarre fanservice that Godannar had from either of the two of them.
I’d loan you guys Betterman for a review if you’d ever actually review the damn thing.
Also, I see Kevin still feels the need to rag on English majors because of his inability to speak or write the language. It’s cute, in a way.

He lashes out the only ways he knows how. :p His mocking cries are only to hide his inner-tears of envy.
I’ll see if Kevin already has Betterman, though.

My SPT Layzner review is right at the 5 hour mark, if anyone cares to listen.
Also, regan did an old skewl beatbox rap about his main mecha man Gold Lightan, totally worth a listen.

Hooray, mech-anime! Is a certain black piston-puncher part of the list, or am I forcing your hand? :)

You mean Big O? Hmmm… That might be tricky. Kevin and I have tried talking about it on the podcast in the past, but it’s really hard making a worthwhile podcast out of especially good shows. As is, we struggled with the next podcast even though I’d rank it as “pretty alright”. You’ll see what I mean soon enough…
