Episode 127: “Ninja Baby Elephant”

We had some leftover listener feedback from the last time Kevin and I did an Alpha Counter, so here it is! Somewhere your favorite anime is mentioned, since this is one of those rare opportunities for us to talk about the hottest anime shows that everyone but us watch.

What we’re watching in the meantime is something with a lot more grit: Asian action movies. Most specifically, Tom Yum Goong. Think of it as Taken, but if Tony Jaa replaced Liam Neeson and his daughter was played by an elephant. Trust me, it’s fucking awesome.

In the Method to Madness podcast, Sean “The Grey Ghost” Ryan and Kevin “The Business” Gray discuss the great anime that you should be watching and the shameful anime we know you’re watching instead.

Heh, it would not occur to Kevin–being a gentleman from the South–to put it that way.

I enjoyed Tom Yum Going quite a bit, but the story in this one took a backseat to the action, in comparison to the 1st Ong Bak film, which had the plot/fight mixture much better IMHO. And, to weigh in, I did follow you over from the anime 3k network, but to be honest, your show was the reason I kept going back there, and I’m not sure they’ll ever find anything to replace you. Another great episode, but I look forward to you destroying bad anime again soon.

Thanks for sticking around! We have a couple anime-related episodes coming up next.

I gotta re-watch Ong Bak, then finally get around to Ong Bak 2 and the IP Man movies.

Have you seen the Thai Kung Fu Movie Chocolate, I saw it streaming on Netflix, it’s not anymore. Here the burbs

“Acclaimed Thai action director Prachya Pinkaew helms this martial arts drama, which follows Zen (JeeJa Yanin), a young autistic woman who discovers that she has the uncanny ability to absorb precision fighting skills just by watching martial arts movies. When her cancer-ridden mother’s creditors come calling, Zen attempts to settle the debts by standing up to a hardnosed gang of criminals who have wrongfully swindled money from her family.”

I like it cause fight on a building and uses the building as a weapon, during the credits they show how the sence was filmed no nets and lots of injuries.

Oh, I LOVE Chocolate. I even gave the Blu Ray to Kevin for his birthday once, so I know he’s seen it. My favorite scene was with the butchers and all the fake-outs.

I searched for “bitches stole my elephant!” and I couldn’t find this movie. But badass dude risking life to save his baby animal has my name written all over it.
